Careers Advice in Schools

A great article today on the BBC News Website about Careers in Schools. Check it out here.

I run a careers Advice programme at Aldridge School in Walsall. My way is to bring in a range of Industry specialists to talk to targeted groups of pupils.

It works very well and I’ve had some great feedback from an independent audit, which gauged young people’s responses and remarks.

Anyone delivering careers without involving the local business community should not be doing the job.

A Careers talk on Teaching

2013-04-30 14.09.58Lydia and Amie from Wolverhampton University came to Aldridge School to present qualification options to Year 11 pupils interesting in Teaching Careers.

It was information and interesting and gave the pupils an idea of what GCSE’s and experience they need to get on the course they want.

You can’t beat having real people coming into school to inform and inspire our young people.

NITP Careers Advice

Mandy and Mark from NITP delivering an Information Technology Apprenticeship Careers Session at Aldridge School today.

A brilliant workshop at all levels; they learned about Apprenticeships, found out about professional qualifications and know how to apply for an IT Apprenticeship training programme. Top class careers advice in action.

It’s great doing Careers Interviews at Aldridge School. Putting young people on the right path is a great feeling, even if it’s just printing out some qualification or Apprenticeship information they didn’t know.

I also bring local business people in to give careers advice talks direct to pupils who have chosen that career path. At Aldridge School we are a village raising a child.
