Even at my advanced age, it’s great to learn from something new and different. I’m totally enjoying a brand new experience this week. I’ve had the opportunity to offer one-to-one interviews for all Year 9 pupils at Queen Mary’s High School. My harsh preconception was an elite school full of entitled clever-clogs. What a learning curve I’ve had. Every single pupil has been a delight and the exact opposite of my perceived stereotype. They are the most humble, lovely young people you could wish to meet. They have been keen to discuss career options and are comfortable doing the research required to find the the right job for them. To be honest, I’d employ the lot of them right now.
Some noticed my business badge and ended up interviewing me! These are thirteen/fourteen year olds. It’s character-building to be on the receiving end, especially when it’s done with such warmth, intelligence and humour.
The school’s organisation has been spot-on too. What an incredible learning place.
Local companies should be aware we’ve got some future Engineers, IT Technicians and Construction Managers here.
